Aegeri/Aquastar is the new U13 Swiss Champion 2023. It is the second title this season for the joint team, showing the excellent and ambitious work that both clubs are doing with their respective athletes.
The U13 Final 6 tournament was held in the recently built Aegeri Bad. The indoor pool on Lake Aegeri’s coast is an excellent opportunity for the local club to train and host such events.
Aegeri/Aquastar was already qualified for the semifinal as the intermediate round winner in front of Lausanne Aquatique and SM Zürich.
We had the chance to speak with Gergely Fülöp, co-coach of the winning team, together with Lazlo Balzam.
We put a lot of work and passion in complete harmony with players’ families.
Gergely Fülöp – Aegeri/Aquastar
wball.ch: congratulation on your title. It’s impressive that Aegeri/Aquastar defended the U11 title last month and is now also the U13 champion. Tell us a bit about how the tournament went from your point of view.
Gergely Fülöp: The semifinal against Lugano was exceptionally even. We managed to stay calm in the crucial part of the match, and I think that this made the difference.
wball.ch: as in the U11 championship, you played another final against Lausanne.
Gergely Fülöp: yes, we started well, getting ahead 6 to 3 after the first quarter. But then Lausanne showed their class and got back 6 to 5. In this particular moment, we showed we could play as a team and were able to win in front of our fans. I think that the result does not reflect to close this game was.
wball.ch: you did an impressive job and have set a basis to be at the top in the junior leagues in the following years. What is the key to your success?
Gergely Fülöp: well, there is only one answer. We put a lot of work and passion in complete harmony with players’ families. Seeing how parents supported their kids over the season was lovely.
