The “Sharks” have hired their fourth head coach. Following Petar Porobić, Ranko Perović, and Vladimir Gojković, the Montenegrin national water polo team will now be led by one of the sport’s most famous teachers. As both a player and a teacher, Savić has had great success that not many people in professional sports can claim.
After ten years of leading the Serbian national team, Savić got them two gold medals at the Olympics in 2012 and 2016, three wins at the European Championships in 2014, 2016, and 2018, and one gold medal at the World Championships in 2015. From 2012 to 2022, he won 17 medals with the Serbian team. He won the European Champions title with Red Star as a club coach in 2013. As a player, he won an amazing 13 medals in the best international tournaments.
“Getting the invitation from Montenegro is a great honor for me, and I see it as a great chance to work together to make things happen. A lot of years, we’ve been friends and great foes in sports. That’s why coming to Montenegro feels like coming to see friends. Because of this, this task will be both a great pleasure and a big duty for me, and I will give it my all”, Savić said.
Dejan Savić will be Montenegro’s first official match as head coach. It will be in Bucharest from January 7–12, 2020, for the A Division World Cup qualification event.
