The Swiss Cup is ongoing, and the teams facing each other in the quarterfinals are set. Interestingly enough, all quarterfinal games are derbies of high interest.
The Lake Ceresio derby between SP Bissone and Lugano Sharka is a classic, and we can expect full stands and an exciting game. Bissone qualified against Lausanne Aquatique (23-7) and has assembled a team dominating the NLB with excellent chances of promotion to the NLA. Bissone is led by the Olympian brothers Goran and Deni Fiorentini, former Palermo captain Fabrizio Di Patti, center forwards Umberto Marino and Gaetano Graziani, and left-side scorer Giljan Alfano.
Lugano qualified in an intense 32-goal game against 2023 finalist SC Horgen. Lugano had the upper hand in the last quarter and secured their continuation in the tournament. Lugano relied on key players “Chicco” Pagani (5 goals), Tommaso Busilacchi (4 goals), Yassin Scala (4 goals), and Dusan Radivojevic (3 goals), while Domonkos Szer of Horgen showed his offensive skills with six goals and 17-years old goalkeeper Csongor Muszely gave his debut for Horgen due to the injury of Pietro Gazzini.
There will be some action on Lake Geneva as well. Geneva qualified against SK Bern (21-5), while city rivals Carouge beat Kreuzlingen II in a close game (13-11). Geneva showed good games in the first NLA round, led by new center-forward Ante Corusic, while Carouge is still missing its defensive master, Kiriakos Pontikeas.
On the other side of Lake Geneva, NLA promotee Riviera Barracudas will play against the NLB team Aquatics Club XXI from the La Côte region.
