KVP Novaky vs Kreuzlingen |
Kreuzlingen will play the LEN Challenger Cup quarterfinals against KVP Novaky from Slovakia.
Slovak water polo has a long tradition and has produced important players who played in top European clubs.
The peak was in the early 2000s with the national team’s qualification for the Olympic games in Sydney. Slovakia qualified in a crucial match, beating Germany 9 to 7.
Among this generation was Novaky’s head coach, Peter Nižný, who also won the LEN European Cup in 2004 as a player of CN Barcelona.
Novaky qualified as second in the group, following Galatasaray, among the favorites for the title, by beating Polytechnic WP Club (Great Britain) and Sporting Clube (Portugal).
We expect to face an experienced team with some good individual players. It will not be easy, but we will do our best.
Milan Petrovic – Head coach SC Kreuzlingen
Kreuzlingen’s head coach Milan Petrovic commented to wball.ch: “We trained diligently to be ready to present Swiss water polo in the best light. We expect to face an experienced team with some good individual players. It will not be easy, but we will do our best.”
Tomas Bielik was the best scorer of the Slovak team during the group phase. Another name in Novaky’s roster that some might recognize is 43-year-old center Igor Cagalinec, who played in the Swiss NLA for SC Frosch Aegeri.
Milan Petrovic: “We aim to achieve the best result possible in an away game so we can play for the entry in the semifinals in our home pool. Defense is crucial, and we want to avoid conceding unnecessary goals to our opponents.”
