It was the top game that all water polo fans expected this week. Horgen won the last game 10 to 9 in the final minute with a goal from their new player Domonkosz Szer. This win created a lot of hope regarding the current season, especially for fans of the team from Lake Zurich.
But yesterday it was a different game. The team from Canton Thurgau started very focused and took the lead from the beginning. Especially the third quarter was dominated by the Swiss champion with a break of 3 to 0. This was the moment when Horgen’s head coach and former Olympian Lukasz Kieloch was assigned the red card by the referees and had to leave the game.
While Kreuzlingen excelled with its teamwork and center Gabor Turzai with 4 goals, Horgen goalkeeper Pietro Gazzini was their best player of the match. Especially the players of Horgen that usually excel by their scoring capabilities were neutralized by the home team and their Serbian goalkeeper Darko Aleksic.
This win brings Kreuzlingen back to the top of the ranking in both the number of points and average points per game. The team coached by Milan Petrovic can now prepare for the cup semifinal game against Lugano, who remains a strong opponenent.
Horgen on the other side has the perfect game to restore their reputation with the game agains SC Schaffhausen next Tuesday. Schaffhausen is a very ambitious team that fights for top placement in the league.
