Recap

Final 15. Place

The Swiss girls started very focused in the first quarter with a good defensive zone backed up by goalkeeper Melanie Raveglia.
Switzerland took the lead with a long-distance goal from Fiona Jenkinson.

Throughout the game, Switzerland suffered from an intense pressing of the opponent. Consequently, the center forward was rarely open to receive passes, and the other players took position far from the goal.

Ireland took advance of some Swiss defensive mistakes and led the game by scoring five goals. Amy Nussbaumer scored the other Swiss goal after a well-player extra player situation.

Melissa Duarte commented after the game: “It was a good game, but we could have done better. It was a great experience, and I’m sad the tournament is over”.

Switzerland ends the tournament on 16th place. Except for Romania and Ireland, the team coached by Vladimir Bajkovic always had to play against much stronger teams showing great effort and good defensive and offensive plays. The players will profit from this experience of playing at international level.

The final placement shows the current status of Switzerland’s women’s youth program compared to other countries. The team paid the price of being relatively inexperienced on the international level playing against national teams that were formed at the age of 13 and had already played U15 international tournaments.
