The LEN Drawing Ceremony in Barcelona determined the qualification groups for the European Championships in Burgas (Bulgaria) to be held from the first to the 7th of September 2024. Switzerland will play in Slovenia from March 15 to March 17 against Georgia, Turkey, Slovenia, and Sweden. The two best-placed teams will qualify for the Burgas.

Switzerland was extracted from the 4th layer of teams based on the results of the previous U19 qualification, only ahead of the 5th layer formed by teams who did not participate in the last qualification event. This shows the importance of making the best result possible in a qualification round to permit the next generation a better scenario.

The group favorites are definitely Georgia and Turkey, while we can expect tight games with Slovenia and Sweden.

The players must show us how much they are ready to sacrifice for our common goal!

Benjamin Redder – Head Coach U19 Swiss National Team

Swiss National Team head coach Benjamin Redder commented to wball.ch:
The real preparation is starting now. We go as an underdog and can surprise everyone. I like that! The players must show us how much they are ready to sacrifice for our common goal!

If we want a chance, we now need to swim at least 10km more per week than usual.

Benjamin Redder – Head Coach U19 Swiss National Team

Redder, who coached the youth teams of Horgen in the last years and won the U17 Championship in 2023, has excellent knowledge of the Swiss talent pool and already performed two common camps in Sursee in the last months.

Benjamin Redder added: I will now approach all club coaches of the players in the U19 roster and ask them if they have the chance to perform additional practices to the ones they usually do. If we want a chance, we now need to swim at least 10km more per week than usual. The willingness to perform this is a key point for my team selection to play in Slovenia.
