WSV Basel is Swiss Champion 2024 and returns at the top of Swiss Women’s water polo.

Switzerland’s water polo fans were surprised last season when WSV Basel was beaten by Tristar in the semifinals.
The team’s management from the city on the Rhine took action and returned this season with an extremely competitive team. The game changer was the new player, Anna Gesheva. The Bulgarian international set the bar very high and was able to lead her team unbeaten through the regular season and semifinals. Gesheva ended her season with a stunning average of 5.24 goals per game, surpassing her teammates Paola De Feo (4.06) and Tsvetelina Bizheva (3.79).
WK Thun has the merit of being the only team to have beaten Basel this season. They won the second final game 12 to 11, which made the decision to go to the third game of the series.
The team from lake of Thun led by center Alina Morgenegg, lefthander Michelle Dubach and Lena Rohde was not able to enter in the last game with Basel taking led lead by 9 to 1 at the end of the first game half.
Thun reacted and tried to come back into the game, but Basel had the advantage of controlling the game to the end.
Basel won the championship after a great season, beating strong teams such as former Swiss Champion Thun and a reinforced SC Winterthur, who won the bronze medals against Zug/Aegeri.
